Theme: THE UNSEARCHABLE RICHES OF HIS GRACE
DAY 23, Read Romans 5:2
THE GRACE ON WHICH WE STAND
Key Text: “Through whom also we have access by faith into this grace in which we stand and rejoice in hope of the glory of God” (Romans 5:2).
Peter was not the only disciple who wrote that we stand on the foundations of grace. Paul also made a similar statement. In Romans 5:2, Paul brings out another interesting aspect of grace. He says, “Through whom also we have access by faith into this grace in which we stand and rejoice in hope of the glory of God.” Paul points out two things here. First, is that we stand on grace. Secondly, we rejoice in hope of the glory of God. We rejoice in hope of something higher and greater. That is yet to be revealed in us. I see this statement as the way to grow in grace.
Paul says, “…into this grace in which we stand…” On what grace do we stand? We stand on the grace of Christ’s death and the benefits of his death. We stand on the salvation, which grace has brought to us. We stand on his atonement, justification, propitiation and redemption. We stand on his finished work at Calvary. We stand on the word of God. We stand on his Spirit. We stand on all those benefits which grace has bestowed on us and yet rejoice in hope of better things that are to come.
Only in Christ is ‘great grace’ possible. We stand on the provisions of this present grace, but look forward to the future with greater expectation. Only as we explore the depths of Christ’s riches can we realize how inexhaustible his grace is. Christ in us is the hope of a future greater glory (Colossians 1:27). We have received of his abundance, grace upon grace (John 1:16). One grace leads us to another higher grace. Grace leads us to the unfathomable and inexhaustible riches of his love. For in him dwells the fullness of the Godhead (Ephesians 3:17-19).
May we grow (progress) in the grace that is in Christ.
PRAYER: Father, thank you for all the blessings and provisions which Your grace has provided for us, on which we now stand.
