“According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue.” (2 Peter 1:3-4).
From start to finish, God did not intend that we run the race on our strength without any support. In advance, He provided us with all the resources we needed to live successfully as Christians and to finish the race. None of us has any excuses for failing. I liken God’s resources to divine support that enables the embattled pilgrim as he trudges along the journey of life.
First, is God’s love for us long before we knew him and surrendered our lives to him. Love motivated God to send Jesus to the world. (John 3:16).
“Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?” (Romans 8:35 NKJV).
John 15:9 KJV, “As the Father hath loved me, so have I loved you: continue ye in my love.”
Next, is God’s provision for our salvation and redemption while we were yet sinners. Romans 5:8 “But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.”
Our salvation is a gift. We have little or no contribution towards our salvation, simply believe in him. Even at that, our faith in him is a gift. Ephesians 2:8, “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:”
We are not left to ourselves to fight the fight of faith. He fights along the way with us. “It is God who works in you, both to will and to work for his good pleasure” (Philippians 2:13).
God works to preserve the faith of the sheep. “He who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ” (Philippians 1:6).
He keeps and sustains us by daily praying for us. Hebrews 7:25 KJV, “Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them.”
He has made provision in Christ to meet any needs we may have in life. Romans 8:32 KJV, “He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things?”
When we feel weary and tired to continue the journey, he sends the Holy Spirit to encourage and comfort us. He gave us his Holy Spirit to keep and sustain us. (John 15:12-15).
You have the assurance of God’s word that, if you are his child, he will “equip you with everything good that you may do his will, working in us that which is pleasing in his sight, through Jesus Christ” (Hebrews 13:21).
His invisible power keeps us from falling and stumbling. He can keep us from falling until the return of the Lord. Jude 1:24 KJV, “Now unto him that is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy”
When we finally arrive at the portals of heaven, when the race is finished, he will then welcomes us with these words, “Well done, good and faithful servant; you have been faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things. Enter into the joy of your Lord.” (Matthew 25:23 NKJV).
