Focus of Interventions
The range of interventions MercyHands engages in include (but not limited to) the following:
- Health Promotion
- Free Mobile clinics, Sunday clinics, Health counseling, Eye camps and surgeries
- Education/literacy programs
- Free extra mural classes, Sponsorship of indigent students, Provision of educational materials, Organizing special literacy classes, Language lessons e.g. French, English etc
- Vocation and Skills transfer
- Volunteer programs and placements, skill acquisition training, Apprenticeship and micro-credit, Sponsorship of vocational courses and micro-credit
- Micro-credit Schemes
- Supporting all the other interventions through provision of micro-funding for small projects run by beneficiaries.
- Special Interventions
- Rights issues for widows, Home and Community care for orphans and vulnerable children (OVC), including HIV positive people (PLWHA), Relief projects and disaster management, Community projects
- Interventions to improve interspousal communications
- Information, Education and Communication (Cross cutting)
- Behavioural change communication to achieve impact in health, educational, vocational, micro-credit and other interventions
- Safe Water Systems
- Disseminate and promote the use of safe water systems such as point of use water disinfectants like WaterGuard, PUR etc
- Digging of a manageable borehole and teaching the people how to use them so they can last
