PRAYERS FOR THE NATION

PRAYER OF THANKSGIVING

  1. Thank God for His mercies, protection, grace and calling on our Nation.
  2. Thank God for the peaceful elections that held in Anambra and other states last year.
  3. Thank God for the relative peace in the South East and the Consultation that is ongoing with regional militant groups in the country
  4. Also thank God for the seeming peace in the Niger Delta and the gradual rise in the price of crude oil
  5. Thank God for the territory and people that were recovered in the North East.
  6. Thank God that as difficult as things are now in our nation, but for God it could have been worse

PRAY FOR THE GOVERNMENT

  1. The call for restructuring now cuts across most ethnic groups in Nigeria. Let’s pray that the government will listen and respond to this call. Let’s pray for courage and boldness on the part of government in handling this matter.
  2. The cost of governance in Nigeria is a major issue. Nigeria has a bloated system and much of our budget is used to sustain this system. Let’s pray that the National Assembly and executive will see reason to reduce cost of governance.
  3. Pray for wisdom for the President to take the right decisions that will be just, fair and equitable to move Nigeria in the right direction.
  4. Pray for good working relationship between the President, the Vice President and the ministers.
  5. Pray for godly influence over the president. We find in the Scriptures that as long a king had the right influence over him, he did well and the nation prospered but when there is none, the king would go astray (2 Chr 26:5; 24:15-18)
  6. Pray that God would insulate Nigerian leadership from evil and wicked counsellors who do not have the best interest of the nation at heart (2 Chr 22:3 Prov 25:5). Pray that God would dislodge any cabal that may be negatively influencing at the different levels.
  7. Ask the Lord to brood over Aso Rock and shield the presidency from every evil influence of enchantments, spells, divinations, sorcery, curses and other wicked devices (Num. 23:23)
  8. Pray against the amnesia that happens to our leaders when they get into office; they seem to lose their better judgment as soon as they move into the Government House.
  9. Let’s pray against the spiritual forces that operate and rule over Aso Rock. Let’s dethrone the evil principality that controls the lives of those who live there as have been revealed by former occupants of the place.
  10. Pray that God will enable the President to govern with equity and justice (2 Sam 23:3).
  11. Pray for the health and security of the President and the VP. Let’s pray that Mr President would see his miraculous recovery as an opportunity to do God’s will.
  12. Pray that the president will be exemplary in his fight against corruption by having the courage to tackle corruption even in his own cabinet (Mt 7:3-5)
  13. Pray that all physical and spiritual veils preventing the President from seeing the true state of the nation be removed.
  14. Pray that God will give a tender and empathetic heart to the President and the governors.
  15. Pray for harmonious working relationship between the different arms of government.
  16. It’s been in the news that the President intends to drop some ministers and reassign some of those who are retained. Pray that he will have the courage and wisdom to do it. Also pray that it will be done strictly on merit, that he will choose the best hands.
  17. Pray for the Permanent Secretaries and Directors at the Federal Civil Service. They play a very vital role in governance and many of them are steep in corruption. Pray for the fear of God and willingness to do the right thing.
  18. Pray that the VP and other key Government officials like the Speaker of House of Representatives will stand strong and uphold godly ethics.
  19. Let’s pray that our leaders will receive divine wisdom from God to develop the plan to rebuild that which has been broken down in our nation
  20. Pray that the President would urgently constitute boards of parastatals, Corporations and Agencies for smooth operation of governance.
  21. Pray for the State Governors that they will be conscious of the economic situation and suffering of the masses.
  22. Pray that the men and women in the National Assembly will begin to act with honour and the fear of God. Pray that they will be enabled to pass laws that will improve the Nation.
  23. Pray that our leaders will be led by God and that they will be propelled to align Nigeria to God’s purpose.

NIGERIAN ECONOMY

  1. Pray that God will give the Federal Government the wisdom to tackle the challenges confronting our economy.
  2. The poor infrastructural situation in our nation has hampered economic growth. Successive governments have paid lip service to this problem. Let’s pray that God would awaken the current government to this need.
  3. Pray that this government will raise up a credible Economic Team; pray for the wisdom of Joseph to rest upon them; pray that they will have a clear economic blueprint for our nation
  4. We are gradually beginning to build our loan profile again as a nation, after God had delivered us from the past burden we carried. Pray for the Lord to frustrate any attempt by the government to collect loans that will mortgage the destiny of future generations
  5. Pray that God would expose those who engage in budget padding.
  6. Pray that this government will tackle economic waste and come up with policies that will plug the loopholes in the economy; pray against economic saboteurs especially in the oil and mining industries
  7. We thank God that the Naira has stabilized for awhile against foreign currencies. Pray that those who sabotage the economy will be exposed.
  8. Pray that the government will pay attention to labour issues such as unemployment, retrenchment; and exploitation of the Nigerian workers
  9. Pray that government policies will be determined by practical economics rather than political and tribal sentiments
  10. Pray for economic growth. Ask that God will lead the government to pursue policies that will encourage and attract Foreign Direct Investments (FDI)
  11. Pray that the government will find solution to the perennial power and energy crises.
  12. Pray that the government, especially the finance ministry, will identify areas of leakage in our economy and block them.
  13. Oil theft is no doubt the highest leakage in our economy. Pray that God will give the National Assembly the wisdom to come up with the right legislation to tackle this menace
  14. Pray for God to expose and judge foreign collaborators and all crude oil thieves.
  15. Pray that government will tackle the poor infrastructural state of our nation.
  16. Pray that God would unleash wisdom upon Nigerian youths and that government will pay more attention to technology start-ups and SMEs.
  17. Pray that government will encourage entrepreneurship and not create roadblocks for those who are building industries.

TERRORISM AND INSECURITY

  1. Pray that God will continue to strengthen our Military and that they will have the requisite hardware to boldly confront and totally win the war against Boko Haram.
  2. Pray that the $1 billion dollars that will be taken from the ECA will not be diverted but would be properly utilized in the war against terrorism. Pray that the Senate will exercise their oversight function concerning it.
  3. Let’s cry out for God to arise against the rampaging Fulani herdsmen and those bent on destabilizing the peace in our nation. May the Lord scatter those who delight in shedding innocent blood.
  4. Let’s pray concerning the resurgence of Boko Haram especially around Borno and Adamawa states
  5. Let’s pray against the silent genocide that’s taking place in Numan area of Adamawa and the silence of the government about the situation.
  6. There is heightened insecurity in the land. The USA and other Western nations have issued security alert concerning an imminent attack in Abuja. Let’s pray that any such plot will be discovered and foiled.
  7. As a result of rampant insecurity and violence many people have resorted to self-help such that the cycle of violence continues unabated. Let’s pray that the security agencies, especially the police will rise up to their duty.
  8. There has been a clamour for SARS to be disbanded. The IG seems to have responded by restructuring the operations of the unit. Let’s pray that it will not weaken their ability to fight armed robbery and other violent crimes.
  9. Let us war against the occult base of Boko Haram, whatever gives them courage and strength. Let us ask that their ‘defences’ be taken away from them. (Numbers 14:9)
  10. Let us target their sponsors, local and international, in prayers. Let us pray that God would expose the channels through which funds are passed to them.
  11. Let’s ask that the Lord would expose the saboteurs in the military – those who sympathise with Boko Haram’s devious ideology, aid and abate them in any way – may God expose and disable them.
  12. Pray that the government will manage the agitation from groups like IPOB, MASSOB, Niger Delta Avengers; MEND, etc. Pray that the government will employ dialogue rather than escalate the situation through military operation.
  13. Pray that there will be synergy amongst the intelligence agencies; pray that the Lord will expose the saboteurs among them
  14. Pray that God will expose the allies of kidnappers in the law enforcement agencies, banking industry and telecoms
  15. Pray that the security agencies will be sincere and have the nation’s interest at heart
  16. The issue of kidnapping and political assassination has not abated especially in the south. Let’s pray that God would expose the hiding places of these kidnappers and those who aid and abate their criminal activities. Pray that God would expose their sponsors and destroy their networks.
  17. There is an evil, wicked and vicious group called Badoo that has been terrorising people in Lagos, targeting churches and defenceless families. Let’s pray that God will expose and judge every member of this group and those they serve.
  18. We also have rising cases of rape, especially of the under-aged. Hardly a day passes without the papers reporting a rape case in our cities. Let’s pray that those in authority will be roused into action concerning this wickedness.
  19. Pray that this government would take action to curb the proliferation of arms in the nation.
  20. Let’s pray that the government and security agencies would place value on human lives.

CORRUPTION

  1. Thank God for the whistle blowing scheme that has led to the exposure of corruption in high places. Pray that those who were involved will be served justice.
  2. Pray that the foundation of corruption in our nation will be exposed and destroyed
  3. Pray that God will strengthen the Federal Government to effectively fight corruption in all sectors of our economy.
  4. Pray that the wind of the Lord will continue to blow and expose corrupt practices in Nigeria. Declare that none will be covered, including the ‘untouchables’ in the ruling party. Those who have swallowed Nigeria’s riches must vomit them, no matter who they are or how highly placed.
  5. Pray that Government will work to strengthen institutions and systems that will not just tackle corruption in the short term but also minimize corruption in the long term. May the Lord expose and judge corruption in EFCC, ICPC, NIS and DSS, etc.
  6. Pray that the war against corruption will be total and not be turned into a tool to witch-hunt political opponents. Pray that the agencies and institutions established to fight corruption will be strengthened; pray that men and women of integrity will head EFCC; ICPC; SON; NAFDAC; SFU; etc
  7. Pray for the cleansing of the Police, Customs, Immigration etc. Pray that the Lord would uproot the rotten eggs in these units and bring men and women of integrity, who have the fear of God.
  8. Ask God to expose and judge corrupt government officials who embezzle funds meant for building and maintenance of infrastructure. Pray that they will be exposed and convicted of their wickedness. (Jer. 17:11).
  9. Pray that God would cause the National Assembly to review the laws and plug the loopholes that officials exploit to perpetuate corruption.
  10. Pray that recruitment and appointments into public offices are determined by merit and not by political affiliation or tribal sentiments.
  11. The judiciary is supposed to be the last hope of the common man but sadly, in Nigeria, it often favours the highest bidder. Corruption pervades our judiciary. Pray for God to purge the judiciary of corrupt and compromised judges and cause those who are upright to be appointed (Isa 1:26).
  12. Pray that the judges who were embroiled in corrupt situations in 2017 will be prosecuted; those who are innocent should be cleared while the guilty should be punished as a deterrent for others
  13. Ask the Lord to expose and judge legislators who are corrupt and who collect bribes to pass bills into laws. Let the Lord visit such people with disgrace and imprisonment (Zech 5:1-4, Jer. 17:11).
  14. Corruption is also rampant in the private sector of the economy. There is revenue loss through capital flight and other acts of sabotage. Let’s pray that the regulatory authorities would take this matter seriously.
  15. Nigerians connive with foreigners to defraud the nation. Pray that God would expose foreign nationals that are involved in illicit business and fraud.

POLITICS AND 2019

  1. The foundation of politics in Nigeria is mostly the occult. Let’s pray for this foundation to be destroyed and a new one raised in righteousness
  2. The upswing in ritual killings have been attributed to politicians preparing for 2019 elections, let’s pray that God will resist those who have blood in their hands and visit them with divine judgment
  3. Let’s pray that the political realignment happening in our nation would produce a new breed and not just recycle those who have nothing to contribute to the nation
  4. Let’s pray that there will be a level playing field for all the registered political parties
  5. Let’s pray that INEC will be impartial and that those who have been compromised already will be discovered and removed
  6. Politicians have started recruiting tugs for the coming elections. Let’s ask God to deliver Nigeria from this vicious circle.
  7. Let’s pray concerning political hot spots like Ekiti, Osun, Rivers, Plateau, Koji, etc. Let’s pray that Government will exercise caution and wisdom in handling those states to prevent violence
  8. Pray that God will begin to strategically prepare and plant the righteous in the mountain of politics and governance
  9. Let’s pray that God will break the grip and negative influence of political godfathers over some states
  10. Let’s pray that God will have mercy on Nigeria and give us good leaders in the coming elections.

THE CHURCH

  1. Pray that God will restore the honour of the Church; that God will unite His Body in Nigeria
  2. The level of bickering, disrespect, and open criticism of Church leaders by fellow church leaders is becoming alarming. This is certainly Satan’s ploy to cause division in the Church. Let’s pray that God will cause Christian leaders to see eye to eye.
  3. Let’s pray that God would give the leadership of CAN and PFN the wisdom and courage to rein in and correct erring members.
  4. Pray that the leaders of the church will continue to seek God for revival in the nation
  5. Let’s plead with God that for His name’s sake and glory He would not allow His Church to suffer reproach (Ps 115:1-2)
  6. Let’s pray that the leadership of the Nigerian church (CAN, PFN) will have a revelation of the prophetic purpose and missionary calling of the Church in Nigeria
  7. Let’s specifically pray that God would protect and empower them to continue to be a bold prophetic voice in our nation. May God give them grace and spiritual authority to speak truth to power
  8. Pray that the church will reflect the light and glory of Jesus and be a bold witness to the unsaved people of our nation
  9. Pray for God to open the eyes of Christians to the satanic agenda for Nigeria.
  10. Let’s pray that God would continue to expose charlatans and those who peddle the Gospel for financial gains
  11. Let’s pray that false doctrines and those who subvert the purposes of God for the Church would be uncovered and overthrown.
  12. Pray for the release of the spiritual gifts of apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors, and teachers within the body of Christ.
  13. Pray that all dividing walls between churches and Christians such as tribe, education or economic levels will be broken down, since we are all the Body of Christ.
  14. Let’s pray that the Lord would ignite the burden for revival and that church leaders will understand revival as the only way out for Nigeria
  15. Let’s pray that God would comfort those who have lost their loved ones in the North East, protection for those who are still labouring there. Let’s pray that God would stir the heart of Christians and church leaders in the south to support brethren in the north.
  16. Pray that the church would earnestly seek the Lord for a great outpouring of the Holy Spirit, that His presence and glory will be manifested. (Joel 2:28, Acts 1:8)
  17. Let’s pray that the Lord would continue to remind us of the suffering church around the world and to bear their burden with them
  18. Pray for greater harvest of souls and proper discipleship. Pray for wisdom, knowledge and understanding, (Ephesians 1: 17 – 19).

MODERN SLAVERY AND HUMAN TRAFFICKING

  1. The recent CNN video that showed how Nigerians were being sold as slaves in Libya has attracted global attention and has worsened our already bad international image. Let’s pray that God would expose the kingpins and network behind this evil
  2. Human trafficking is a booming underground business in Nigeria. The people behind it connive with security agents to perpetuate their wickedness. Let’s pray that God would expose their operations and bring speedy judgment on those behind the evil.
  3. We constantly watch how Africans, especially Nigerians, perish in the desert and seas in their quest to seek for better conditions abroad. Let’s pray that God will touch our leaders to pursue policies that will give hope to the citizens
  4. There is a satanic dimension to human trafficking. Some of the victims are held by oaths of secrecy that have helped to perpetuate this evil. Let’s pray that this yoke of bondage would be broken.
  5. Another sad and wicked side to it is that some of them are trafficked in order to harvest their organs, which has resulted in the loss of many lives. Let’s raise a cry to God that this evil be stopped and those behind it judged.
  6. Let’s pray that God will awaken African leaders to come up with a collective approach to stop this evil.

PRAYER AGAINST SATAN’S AGENDA FOR NIGERIA

  1. Let’s issue restraining order against the powers of darkness assigned to frustrate God’s purpose for Nigeria
  2. Pray that God would cause every satanic entity assigned to hold-up, hinder or slow down the manifestation of His purpose for Nigeria to be frustrated and overthrown.
  3. Let’s reject, break and bind the forces that seek to control and pervert the destiny of Nigeria.
  4. By the blood of Jesus let us neutralise and nullify satan’s will for our nation.
  5. Let’s forcefully proclaim that the presence of God will occupy Nigeria and protect her against every conspiracy, spiritual invasions and enthronement of powers and principality in every sphere and sector of our Nation.
  6. Let’s ask God to release His plans to reverse wicked and evil political actions that have set back our nation from her prophetic destiny.
  7. Let’s command the land of Nigeria to respond and align itself to the will and programme of God.

CHILDREN AND YOUTHS

  1. Pray against satan’s agenda to destroy the destiny of the youths of our nation.
  2. Pray for a national reorientation for the Nigerian youths
  3. Pray that God will revisit the campuses with revival as He did before
  4. Pray against the ‘prince of the power of the air’ responsible for moral decadence and Indiscipline among the youths (Eph 2:2)
  5. Pray that the government will pursue policies that provide employment and meaningful engagement for the youths
  6. Bind the spirit of witchcraft, rebellion, violence, pornography, lawlessness, mammon, laziness, etc reigning over our youths. Pray and release the youths of this nation from the influence of these spirits, (Isa. 49:24-26).
  7. Pray against the spirit of hopelessness that pervades the youths of our nation. Many of them have been driven into crime and violence because they are disillusioned about the future.
  8. Pray against the baits that Boko Haram, militant groups and politicians use to lure and recruit the youths for violent crime.
  9. Pray that our children will be brought up by their parents in the way of the Lord so that when they grow up, they will not depart there from, (Prov. 22:6).
  10. Pray for the children who have become orphans; that the Lord would take them up as their Father (Ps 27:10)
  11. Pray that youths will become truly obedient to their parents, (Ephesians 6:1 – 3).
  12. Pray that this government will keep their campaign promise to provide employment opportunities for the youths.
  13. Pray that God will deliver the Nigerian youths from restiveness. Ask that the government will have wisdom to harness the creative potentials of the youths
  14. Pray that God will raise up again fiery evangelists among the youths and bring about massive harvest of youths for the kingdom.
  15. Most of those brought back from Libya are youths. Pray that God will deliver them from the deception that lures them into such fruitless adventure.

EDUCATION

  1. Pray for improved and qualitative education for our children
  2. Pray that this government will not pay lip service to the educational sector but should be concerned about the quality of graduates from our institutions
  3. It is estimated that Nigerians spend an aggregate of close to a billion dollars annually to pay fees for their children studying outside the country. This is a huge reproach that must be rolled away from our country. Pray that the government will focus on improving the learning environment and quality of teaching in our schools
  4. Pray for the review of our educational system. Schools are not equipping students to function in a modern society
  5. Pray that the government would invest in good educational infrastructure, training of teachers and school administrators
  6. Pray that the education minister will have the right vision and divine burden to revamp the educational system. Pray that officials in charge of Education will have the wisdom, integrity and courage to confront the rot in the education sector.
  7. Pray for the reorientation of teachers and lecturers in our tertiary institutions. Pray that the Lord would take over their hearts and cause them to see their profession as a calling towards the students.
  8. Pray against moral decadence in our education system such as corruption, prostitution, occultism and other vices. May our children no longer have to pay lecturers to pass exams, may our daughters no longer have to sell their bodies before graduating, let occultism be a thing of the past in our school: primary, secondary, university.
  9. Some lecturers have been implicated in the abuse of their students and some of them are being prosecuted for rape. Pray that judgment will be speedily passed against the wicked as a deterrent to others.
  10. Pray that churches and Christians who function in this sector would continue to lift high the banner of the Lord and make a difference. Let’s pray that the profit motive will not distract them from the ministry goal.
  11. Pray that conspiracy against Christian schools will not prosper; let’s pray against any design or legislation in some states to frustrate Christian schools
  12. let’s pray that God will weed out quacks and charlatans from the educational sector
  13. Pray against examination malpractices and indiscipline in our education system.Pray that God will cleanse WAEC, NECO, JAMB etc. These bodies have become so corrupt that the certificates they issue are no longer respected
