THEME: “TOUGH TIMES NEVER LAST, TOUGH PEOPLE DO”
Read Hebrews 12:25-29
A WORLD IN DISARRAY
Key Verse: “…Yet once more I shake not only the earth, but also heaven.” (Verse 26).
As I think of how best to describe the impact of COVID -19 on the global system, it is simply to call it a world in disarray. COVID-19 threw the world in disarray. Since November 2019 the world has been in disarray. Experts say it will take years for the world to return to normal. Uncertainty has become the “new normal.”
COVID-19 caused so much fear, that people who were not listening to God are now ready to listen. We cannot afford to ignore God when he speaks. C. S. Lewis said, “We can ignore even pleasure. But pain insists upon being attended to. God whispers to us in our pleasures, speaks in our conscience, but shouts in our pains: it is his megaphone to rouse a deaf world.”
We saw the high and mighty, princes, rulers, political leaders, sports icons and celebrity artists, and common people infected by the Coronavirus. God has shown that man is very frail; he is like the flower of the field, which can pass away very easily. Man’s glamour and pride have been ridiculed and judged.
Under our close watch, God has judged the confidence and pride of men, he has judged the invincibility of men, the programs and plans of men, he has exposed the weaknesses of nations, exposed the plans and weaknesses of political leadership, he has judged the god of sports, the god of mammon, the god of politics, the spirit of tourism and leisure, the god of entertainment, the god of materialism, the spirit of greed, etc.
One purpose of COVID-19 is that the kingdom that cannot be shaken may manifest. Daniel 2:44 describes the nature of this kingdom: “And in the days of these kings the God of heaven will set up a kingdom which shall never be destroyed; the kingdom shall not be left to other people; it shall break in pieces and consume all these kingdoms, and it shall stand forever” (Daniel 2:44 NKJV).
Hebrews 12:28 speak of what our attitude should be under the unfolding circumstance. “Since we are receiving our rights to an unshakable kingdom, we should be extremely thankful and offer God the purest worship that delights his heart as we lay down our lives in absolute surrender, filled with awe.” (Hebrews 12:28 TPT).
We must lay down our lives in absolute surrender to him. We must all return to God in repentance, confessing our sins of unrighteousness. We must return to the path of holiness. We must turn away from our wicked ways. We must humble ourselves before God.
PRAYER: LORD, I humble myself before you. I invite you to reign over my life, plans and aspirations in these tough times.
