Texts: Luke 1:34-38;49; Job 5:9; Galatians 3:5; Mk.11:20-24.
The nature of God is the nature of miracles. Doing miracles cost God nothing. Miracles are normal with God. There are 120 recorded miracles in the Bible, some sources say 180, and Jesus performed 37 miracles.
In this fasting month of July, we should PRAY FOR AND EXPECT the miracles of God. We should expect miracles because Isaiah 8:18 says, “Here am I and the children whom the Lord has given me! We are for signs and wonders in Israel From the Lord of hosts, Who dwells in Mount Zion.”
What is a miracle? My definition of a miracle is found in Luke 1:34-38. There we see the Holy Spirit as the midwife of a miracle of fruitfulness, conception and the incarnation.
No matter what people may say, miracles still happen today. Last week, we heard the testimony of Dr and Dr (MRS) Nwokolo about the miracle of healing Jesus did for them. Also, the Guardian Newspaper of 11th June 2021, carried the news of the miracle God did for Archbishop Kwashi, the Anglican Archbishop of Jos. BELIEVE GOD FOR YOUR MIRACLE TODAY. Mary testified in her song, “For He who is mighty has done great things for me, And holy is His name.” (Luke 1:49 NKJV).
Do we have to fast to get a miracle? Yes and No. Not all who received miracles in the Bible fasted. However, fasting is necessary because it is a way of asking God to do for you what you cannot do for yourself. (2) Also, fasting is another way of saying to God, “I don’t know what else to do, help me in my situation.” (3) Jesus said, certain things cannot change unless we fast. (Mt.17:21). (4) FASTING IS AN ACT OF FAITH THAT DEMONSTRATES OUR SURRENDER TO GOD TO INTERVENE ON OUR BEHALF. (5) It is also our show of perseverance or our hunger for what we desire but cannot achieve on our strength.
TWO MAIN REASONS WHY MIRACLES ARE NECESSARY.
There are situations in our lives which ONLY THE MIRACLE OF GOD can resolve. No man can solve them. (See John 9:3; 11:4,40 read from NIV).
Jesus responded to the situation of the blind man thus, “It was not because of his sins or his parents’ sins,” Jesus answered. “This happened so the power of God could be seen in him.” (John 9:3 NLT). SEE THE NIV.
Concerning Lazarus Jesus said, “But when Jesus heard about it he said, “Lazarus’s sickness will not end in death. No, it happened for the glory of God so that the Son of God will receive glory from this.” (John 11:4 NLT).
“Jesus said to her, “Did I not say to you that if you would believe you would see the glory of God?” (John 11:40 NKJV).
YOU LOSE NOTHING
You won’t lose anything believing God for a miracle today. How does a miracle happen? It is simply by faith in the power of God. What is faith? It is simply trusting God for his power and intervention (Mt.17:20).
FAITH CONNECTS YOU TO THE GOD OF MIRACLES. THE MIRACLES OF GOD ARE UNPREDICTABLE. THERE IS NO “ONE SIZE FITS ALL” SITUATION ABOUT MIRACLES.
THREE WAYS MIRACLES HAPPEN!
A, MIRACLES COME BY FAITH IN CHRIST JESUS
The healing of the Noble man’s son was by faith in the word (John 4:46-54).
The Centurion had faith in Jesus’s word (Matt.8:8-10)
The carriers of the paralyzed man who was let down from the roof had faith (Lk.5:20)
The woman with the issue of blood exercised faith (Lk.8:42-46).
The man at the Beautiful gate depended on the faith of Peter (Acts 3:1-6).
The lame man at Lystra had faith (Acts 14:8-11).
“Bring him to me.” Jesus told the disciples their faith could be as small as a mustard seed (Mt.17:14-21).
B, MIRACLES COME BY GRACE (John 5:5-7; 9:1-3; Acts 6:8).
C, MIRACLES COME BY PATIENCE AND PERSEVERANCE (2 Cor.12:12).
