“The king’s wrath is like the roaring of a lion, But his favor is like dew on the grass.”
(Proverbs 19:12 NKJV).
God’s favour brings the blessing of fruitfulness, growth and abundance.
In Proverbs 19:12, The dew is a metaphor for blessing. The lion is a ferocious and ravenous animal; it devours and eliminates other animals. A king’s wrath is likened to a roaring lion. In contrast, the king’s favour is like dew to the grass. The dew wets the grass and makes the grass grow. The dew makes the grass luxuriant and fresh.
The refreshing and reviving effect of dew upon the plants in the Holy Land prompted Isaiah to use it as a figure of resurrection in Isaiah 26:19 and Hosea as a figure of repentance in Hosea 14:4–5.
God said to Israel in Hosea 14:5-7, “I will be like the dew to Israel; He shall grow like the lily, And lengthen his roots like Lebanon. His branches shall spread; His beauty shall be like an olive tree, And his fragrance like Lebanon. Those who dwell under his shadow shall return; They shall be revived like grain, And grow like a vine. Their scent shall be like the wine of Lebanon.” (Hosea 14:5-7 NKJV).
God promised to bring healing and restoration to Israel and make her flourish as a nation. When God visits the Christian, he brings blessings, healing and restoration to him. He makes the believer flourish and be fruitful, resourceful and impactful again.
Isaac used the imagery of the dew to bless Jacob thus:
“Therefore may God give you Of the dew of heaven, Of the fatness of the earth, And plenty of grain and wine.” ( Genesis 27:28 NKJV). Also, see Zechariah 8:12.
We all need the blessings of God in whatever we do in life. God’s blessings are a source of joy, an energizer, a stimulant, motivation and encouragement to us all.
May the dew of heaven come upon your life. May you flourish under the wings of the Holy Spirit.
